The American Red Cross and Hernando County Emergency Management are hosting a special two-day, sheltering training course for new volunteers. The training will take place on Thursday, February 20th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and Friday, February 21st from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Operations Center (18900 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, FL 34601). Volunteer shelter reservists are utilized on a stand-by basis during a disaster. The first day of training will cover Red Cross new volunteer orientation. The second day will cover shelter training and conclude with a tour of the Emergency Operations Center. Please register in advance, as instructors need an accurate count of available materials and computers for use. If you’re interested in attending the course contact Alex Glenn at 352-459- 6601. You will need to pack a brown bag lunch.
