The Live Music Scene is alive and well!

If you love music, you’re in luck.  The live music scene is alive and well here on the West Central Florida coast.  Whether it’s a Friday night at the local bar or a festival in a park, you can be sure to enjoy the efforts of the many talented musicians that live, work, and play right here on the Nature Coast.

Rock and Roll, country, rockabilly, bluegrass, and the blues are happening LIVE almost every day of the week… If you use Facebook, we recommend you like and follow the Winding River Promotions (WRP) page and group.

Here’s some of what we know about the live music scene:Winding River Promotions (1)

In Spring Hill, bars like the Horse & Crown Lounge, Mermaids, and BBs Bar & Grill are your best bet to catch a good band on the weekend.  Of these, the Horse & Crown is consistent with their offering of rock bands; in fact, they’ve long been known as Hernando County’s Home of Rock and Roll!  Mermaids and BB’s offer intermittent live music opportunities but are talking about increasing their bookings.

Out on Hernando Beach, the Cove has had the best focus on music for a while now.  But, John and Dori – former owners of the Upper Deck – are expanding the footprint of their new place The Drunken Mullet… and without a doubt, they’ll let Michelle get some great music going in there… In fact, music has been happening there since they opened, just on a small scale due to the size of the place.  The new owners of the Sunset Grille, Steve and Nicki, are hosting live music a few times a week.  Because they are including music on the menu most nights, and they are new, their per-day music budget is low but their overall investment in music on a monthly basis is awesome and lots of our area’s musicians are banging on their door to get in.   The newest place out there, the Silver Dolphin, is following suit by offering solo and duo gigs a few times a month.  Brian’s Place puts some good musicians out on their front porch on weekend nights and they chose some of the best talent around.  In Weeki Wachee, the Upper Deck has occasional music and out at the Bayport Inn, Melissa Raines is trying to book music as often as the owners will let her.

Out in Brooksville, you’ve got BTs Bar & Liquor Lounge.  Buzze, a recently retired firefighter, is tearing it up out there with LIVE music every Friday and Sunday night and adding in the occasional Saturday night special.

And there’s Hudson, just to the south.  With the Super Sunday Shack Jam at the Fisherman’s Shack on Old Dixie Highway which is an AMAZING blues jam.  There’s Sam’s on Hudson Beach, and Get Hooked which both regularly host live music on their Tiki Decks.  Skinny’s, on US 19 is a spot to catch live music on Friday nights, early.  And if you love hard rock, get down to the Overtime Sports Bar on SR 52 on a weekend, sometime.

To our north, you can take a beautiful ride up to High Octane, or Crystal Harley Davidson for some motorcycle vibes and daytime live music.  Or head over to McCrae’s Shed (The Shed) and sit alongside of the Homosassa River while listening to some tunes and watching the locals dance.  There’s a variety of other live music venues in Crystal River, too.
