Summer Fun at the Hernando County Library

libraryYour Hernando County Public Library System has planned an exciting summer packed with events and activities for kids of all ages! The theme for the Summer Reading Program this year is “Dig Into Reading”. Check out the great things going on in June, July, and August here:

  • The Summer Reading Kickoff Celebration for all ages held June 10th from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the West Hernando Branch Library (6335 Blackbird Avenue, Brooksville, Florida 34613). The event will include games, activities and face painting to kickoff the Summer Program.
  • Beach Party for ages 8-12 held June 17th from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the West Hernando Branch Library (6335 Blackbird Avenue, Brooksville, Florida 34613). Celebrate the beginning of summer with beach-themed crafts and activities. Click here to register!
  • Super Hero Academy for ages 8-12 held July 6th from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the East Hernando Branch Library (6457 Windmere Road, Brooksville, FL 34604). Alert! All Super Hero recruits needed for games, crafts, and other activities! Click here to register now.
  • Owl Pellets for ages 8-12 held July 15th from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Main Library Branch (238 Howell Avenue, Brooksville, FL 34601). Meet an owl from Honosassa Springs State Park and dissect an owl pellet! Click here to register. 
  • Oz Program for ages 8-12 held August 3rd from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Spring Hill Library Branch (9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34608). Participate in Oz-related activities while watching the film, Oz the Great and Powerful! Click here to register!

  • Worms at Work- The Hernando County Extension Service will bring by some earthworms and explains their important role in composting plus, make your own edible dirt cup!
  • Pirates Ahoy- Arrr, Mateys! Enjoy a morning filled with pirate games, activities, and crafts!
  • Meal Worm Mania- Learn about the life cycle using meal worms through stories and games.
  • Dino-mite- Travel back in time to learn all about dinosaurs through stories, activities, and crafts.
  • Butterfly Gardening- Learn about Florida butterflies and butterfly gardening from a landscaping expert from the Hernando County Utilities Department.
  • Deep Sea Digging- The Hernando County Extension Service presents a program that gives kids the chance to feel what it’s like to dig in the deep sea.
  • Plant a Seed- Join the Chinsegut Conservation Center and learn about plants and gardening, and get a chance to plant your own!
  • Art Attack!- Is there a future artist in your family? Kids between the suggested ages of 6 – 12 invited to be inspired by famous artists and works of art. They will learn about a famous artist and then make their own work of art inspired by that artist.
  • Homosassa Springs: Burrowing Animals- Springs staff will delight with a presentation about, and appearances by, burrowing animals.
