27 year old Kristen Broker of Spring Hill was charged with child neglect after leaving her 3 year old son home alone while she went out drinking. Deputies were dispatched to a home on Lamson Avenue after being notified that there may be a child alone in the house. Broker was being dropped off at the house as law enforcement was arriving around 2:00 a.m. and she was confronted about whether there was a child alone inside. Broker advised that her son was inside sleeping and that boyfriend was at work. Broker appeared to be heavily intoxicated and advised that she had been drinking since the previous afternoon. She claimed she was picked up around 1:30 a.m. and went to Delirium, a local bar, where she’d had a “few rum and cokes” and a couple of beers, but said she’d only been gone a half an hour. According to the deputy’s report, Broker “appeared almost as if she did not believe it was an issue to leave her child alone for any amount of time.” The boy was located, awake, in his mother’s bed and appeared to be worried and scared according to the arrest report. He advised that his mother told him she would be right back and that it was dark outside. Broker provided a sworn, written statement admitting to leaving the child alone and was placed under arrest. The child was turned over to the father’s care.
