It is well-known in retail that shoplifters are out to steal merchandise straight off the shelves. Well, this weekend Deputies and Loss Prevention staff were busy keeping the merchandise on the shelves.
On Saturday, Deputies were called out to Kohl’s after a retail theft occurred. According to reports 35-year-old Justin,
Malloy passed all points of sale after placing a blue JBL Bluetooth Wireless Speaker in his jacket pocket that he was wearing. Upon arriving on the scene, Malloy had left the store and was observed riding his bicycle. Deputies conducted a traffic stop at which time the Malloy ran causing a brief foot chase. Malloy was taken into custody and charged with Retail Theft and resisting without violence.
On Sunday afternoon, Deputies responded to the Walmart n Commercial Way. According to reports Charles McKeehan removed a 12-volt battery checker from the shelve and attempted to flee the store but was stopped by loss prevention. McKeehan was cooperative until the arrival of Law Enforcement when he ran out the door. Loss Prevention directed Deputies to McKeehan in the
parking lot where he was taken into custody. Once in custody, McKeehan stated to Deputies, “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to go back to jail”. Before being taken to jail, Mckeehan was transported to a local hospital after claiming he was having a stroke. After being cleared from the hospital, McKeehan was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center without incident. McKeehan also had two outstanding warrants out of Citrus and Pinellas County.
Also on Sunday afternoon, Deputies responded to Target on Commercial Way. According to reports, Joel, Metivier grabbed a Nest Learning Thermostat and was able to successfully remove the spider wrap from the item. Metivier proceeded to exit the store with the item. Loss prevention then contacted Metivier where he admitted to removing the spider wrap and concealing the item
with intent to steal it. Deputies transported Metivier to the Hernando County Jail without incident.
The last incident occurred on Sunday afternoon after Loss Prevention observed Sydella, Mayle concealing feminine beauty items, Jewelry, and vehicle accessories while inside the Bealls Store located on Cortez Blvd. Mayle then exited the store with all the items inside her purse. After being confronted by loss prevention staff, Mayle began to resist and refused to return to the loss prevention office. One of the Loss Prevention employees grabbed the purse which contained the merchandise at which time Mayle began to violently pull the purse from Loss Prevention. During the struggle, Mayle kicked one of the employees in the shin. Deputies arrived on scene and
placed Mayle under arrest for retail theft and resisting merchant/employee.
It should be noted that serval other individuals were arrested this weekend for retail theft but those reports are not available at this time.
