The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is seeking to augment the Animal Enforcement Unit with volunteers from the community. At this time there are only four Animal Services Officers assigned to the Animal Enforcement Unit and they handle, on average, approximately 817 calls for service per month. The four officers are responsible for covering the county’s 506 square miles, seven days a week. They work 12-hour shifts and are on call for emergency dispatch after hours. If you love animals and are interested in giving back to your community in this manner, please contact Sue Raffensperger at (352) 797-3660 or click here to obtain a copy of the Volunteer Application and return the completed application to Gabrielle Rei in the Human Resources department.
