Yesterday afternoon around 4:15pm Hernando County Fire Rescue was dispatched for a reported residential fire at 2448 Dothan Ave. Initial information was that a vacant home was on fire. The fire was reported by a neighbor checking her mail and saw smoke coming from breaking windows. HCFR arrived on scene within five minutes of the alarm and reported black smoke coming from a window. Fire crews made an offensive attack to locate the fire and verify that no one was in the structure. The fire was located in a bedroom and possibly from a mattress. No persons were found to be in the structure at the time of the fire. The fire was knocked down, and kept to the room of origin. The home still sustained heavy smoke damage to other areas in the home.
