Hurricane sales tax holiday runs through Thursday

The National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration (NOAA) predicts there could be nine to fifteen storms this hurricane season and that’s why officials say now is the time to prepare.

This week shoppers can take advantage of a state tax break on essential hurricane supplies.

During Florida’s 2019 disaster preparedness sales tax holiday. All qualifying items will be tax free – the list includes items like flashlights, generators and radios.

The tax-free holiday will run until Thursday June 6.

The following items are included in the sales tax holiday

Reusable ice (reusable ice packs)

Any portable self-powered light source (powered by battery, solar, hand-crank or gas)

Candles

Flashlights

Lanterns

Batteries, including rechargeable batteries, only these sizes:

AAA-cell

AA-cell

C-cell

D-cell

6-volt

9-volt

Coolers and ice chests (food storage; nonelectrical)

Bungee cords

Radios (powered by battery, solar or hand-crank)

Ratchet straps

Tarpaulins (tarps)

Tie-down kits
