Join the citizens who are stepping forward to make a difference in their community by volunteering with Hernando County Government! By becoming a Partner in Public Service your contributions of talent and skill add support for County departments and enhance services to the public. Anyone wanting to contribute something to the community can volunteer including working people, retirees, homemakers, college students, and young people ages fourteen and older. Some examples of volunteer activities include (more are available):

  • Adopting a road (Dept. of Public Works)
  • Assisting animal services ( Rescue Coordinators, Lost & Found Advocates, Pet Adoption Advocates, Pet Photographers)
  • Assisting with the 4-H Program (County Extension Services)
  • Master Gardeners Program (County Extension Services)
  • Recycling Program (Utilities Dept.)
  • Written Resource Materials Inventory
  • Landscaping/Park Maintenance (Parks & Recreation)
  • Customer service
  • Library (Hernando County Public Library)
  • Environmentally Sensitive Lands (Planning Dept.)
  • Data Entry & Word Processing
  • Clerical, Filing, & Organizational Services
  • Sign Manufacturing
  • Research
  • Public Speaking & Community Presentations (Community Relations)
  • Technical Assistance & Writing
  • Grant Writing
  • Camp Leaders, Life Guards & Class Instructors (Parks & Recreation)
  • Amateur Radio Emergency Communications (Emergency Management)
