The HCSO has three permanent Drug Drop Boxes. With these drop boxes in place, citizens are able to properly dispose of unwanted, unused, and/or expired prescription and over the counter medications as well as veterinarian prescriptions. The drug drop boxes can be found at the following locations:
– Main Office – 18900 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34601 (located inside the main lobby). This drop box is available during normal business hours.
– District Two Office – 7499 Forest Oaks Boulevard, Spring Hill, FL 34606 (located inside the lobby). This drop box is available from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday.
– Hernando County Detention Center – 16425 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34609 (located on Northeast corner of the parking lot near the Inmate Release Pavilion). The drop box is available 24/7.
There is NO COST to drop off unwanted or unused medications.
The following items CANNOT be disposed of in the drop boxes but can be disposed of at the locations listed below:
– Needles, Sharps, Syringes, Liquids, or Inhalers– Please take these items to the landfill at either 14450 Landfill Road in Brooksville, 2525 Osowaw Boulevard in Spring Hill, or 33070 Cortez Blvd in Dade City.
Please keep in mind that the drop boxes located at our facilities are small. If you have a very large quantity of unwanted medications, it may be best to go directly to a landfill near you, as we are unable to handle more than a few bottles at a time. Our hope is to provide an increased awareness of prescription drug abuse and help keep potentially dangerous drugs out of the wrong hands.
