We have some cool historical places here in Hernando County. Have you heard of the May Stringer House? This late 1800s home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has over 11,000 historical artifacts on display. It is open Tuesday-Saturday, noon -3pm.
How about the 1885 Train Depot? Located in beautiful downtown Brooksville, the history of this museum is fascinating and tells the story of our area in a way you won’t discover elsewhere. It is also open Tuesday-Saturday, noon-3pm.
Then, there is the Countryman Family One Room Schoolhouse Museum, a representation of the first school built in the 1850?s by Fredrick Lykes. Like the others, this museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, noon-3pm.
And the best part of it all?! Saturday, September 21st is Museum Day!!!
Museum Day is an annual celebration hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people on Saturday, September 21, 2019.
