Fosters needed for veterans’ dog program
K9 Partners for Patriots is in need of volunteers to foster a dog for a veteran in need. Volunteers help provide temporary care for dogs before they are matched with a veteran.
The nonprofit organization provides service dogs, many rescued from shelters, to veterans with post traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma. The veterans are partnered with dogs that are right for them so they can begin a training program together.
To foster a dog, an individual must be willing to include the dog in family activities and allow the dog to live indoors as a member of the household. It is recommended that they spend daily one-on-one time with the dog, such as cuddles, play and walks on a leash.
