The Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) program offers classes and workshops year-round to help residents learn how to save time, money and water when maintaining their lawns and gardens. Free Class: How to Have a Critter-Friendly Yard

Residents are invited to attend “How to Have a Critter-Friendly Yard” on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the West Hernando Library located at 6335 Blackbird Avenue in Brooksville. Participants will learn about FFL Principle number five: Attract wildlife. How to bring more life to your landscape will be discussed. This class will be presented by FFL Coordinator Lilly Browning. No registration necessary.

Free Class: Florida-Friendly Landscaping for Kids – Book Reveal and Review

Residents and their children are invited to attend “Florida-Friendly Landscaping for Kids – Book Reveal and Review” on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Chinsegut Conservation Center located at 23212 Lake Lindsey Road in Brooksville. Volunteer Master Gardeners Kim Cottrell and Evelyn Davis along with the University of Florida have created a FFL book just for kids! Join Ms. Cottrell as she presents a draft of this publication. No registration necessary.

Rain Barrel Workshop

Residents are invited to attend a Rain Barrel Workshop on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Hill Branch Library located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive. This workshop will be presented by FFL Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. Rain barrels are $50 each. Attendance is mandatory to purchase a rain barrel; however, you may attend without purchasing one. Please make checks payable to HCUD and mail to Hernando County Utilities, 15365 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34613. Write “Rain Barrel Workshop August 10” on the envelope. Checks will be the only form of payment accepted and must be received by August 9, 2019. Hernando County Utilities customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive a one-time $25 credit on their water bill. Please bring a vehicle that can accommodate a 55-gallon barrel. All sales final. Call (352) 540-6230 for more information.

Free Class: When Bad Landscapes Happen to Good People

Residents are invited to attend “When Bad Landscapes Happen to Good People” on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the University of Florida IFAS Extension at Hernando County Office, located at 16110 Aviation Loop Drive in Brooksville. Participants will learn about common mistakes that are made in the central Florida landscape and how to avoid them. No registration necessary.

Free Class: How to Become Friends with Florida-Friendly Landscaping

Residents are invited to attend “How to Become Friends with Florida-Friendly Landscaping” on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Hill Branch Library located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive. Participants will learn how to convert their landscape into a low-maintenance, budget-friendly, water-wise oasis. This class will be presented by Volunteer Master Gardener Kim Cottrell. No registration necessary.

Free Class: Master Gardener Secrets – Revealed!

Residents are invited to attend “Master Gardener Secrets – Revealed!” on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hernando County Utilities Building located at 15365 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville. Do you feel like your Florida yard is keeping secrets from you in how to care for it? Learn from Master Gardeners who continually try to crack the code! Let their experience be your guide. This class will be presented by Volunteer Master Gardeners Sue and Bernie Bathauer. No registration necessary.
