Commissioners vote ‘No’ on Republic Services rate increase due to poor service

After hearing numerous complaints from the public and being frustrated themselves, Hernando County Commissioners voted on Tuesday to breach their contract with Republic (5)

The County Commissioners voted “no” on giving the trash company its annual rate increase.

The county’s attorney reminded commissioners that voting against the rate increase, which would be only $0.29 a month per household, would be a breach of the seven-year contract with Republic Services.

But commissioners argued that Republic Services had already breached the contract numerous times by not fulfilling their service requirements and continuing to miss trash and recycling pickups throughout the county.

The county says they will continue to monitor missed pickups and want better customer service from Republic Services.

Republic Services told commissioners that they would look into ways to provide better customer service to Hernando County.
