Clearwater Beach

While Hernando County, Florida boasts it’s own beautiful parks, marinas, and local beaches,  one of it’s best features is the convenient location which makes travel to larger tourist attractions a breeze. Clearwater Beach is one of those fabulous must-visit places that’s just a short drive away.

Located only 42 miles south of Spring Hill, Clearwater Beach is located in Pinellas County on the west central coast of Florida. The beach stretches for 2.5 miles along the Gulf of Mexico and sits on a barrier island. Recognized as one of the top ten beaches in the United States, the pristine waters lure people from all over the world to this beautiful vacation spot and many different languages can be heard among the tourists who flock there for some leisure time. The temperature averages a comfortable 82 to 88 degrees during peak season and the waves on the Gulf Coast are gentle and very relaxing. Children, non-swimmers, and older people can enjoy the surf without fear of being knocked over by gushing waves. The cool white sand, often referred to as “sugar sand”, is powder soft and free of debris, making it easy on bare feet and pleasurable for strolling. It’s so enjoyable that you can spend hours swimming and sunning.

In recent years, Clearwater Beach was upgraded with a beautification project called The Beach Walk and in January 2013, Clearwater Beach was awarded the designation of Florida’s Best Beach Town by a reader poll from USA Today readers. Some of the newer additions to the beach include drinking fountains, showers to rinse the sand off, and bicycle racks, as well as a paved bicycle trail lined by mangrove trees nearby that parallels the Clearwater Memorial Causeway. This beach is known for its laidback atmosphere for couples in need of some downtime but also offers family-friendly accommodations and many exciting activities to enjoy. Sun umbrellas and beach cabanas are abundant and can be rented on the beach at a nominal cost. Parasailing, jet-skiing, paddle boarding, and kayaking are a few of the water sports you can opt for on Clearwater Beach.  It’s a golfer’s dream with picturesque courses and a fisherman’s paradise with both pier and deep sea fishing available. Dolphins and manatees can be seen almost every day on the Dolphin and Sightseeing Cruises and occasionally while just hanging out at the beach too.  Visitors can meet Winter the Dolphin, who was the star in the movie Dolphin Tale and swims with a prosthetic tale, at The Clearwater Marine Aquarium, shop at the local shops, or grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants. It features a playground for children and The Jolley Trolley bus provides transportation up and down the beach. The sunsets are spectacular and a perfect way to end a day of activities and/or begin the evening festivities. The pier has a nightly display of goods such as jewelry, candles, clothing, and many other gift items sold by local artisans.  Many of the restaurants and nightclubs showcase nightly entertainment or music, dancing and karaoke. The options for fun on Clearwater Beach are endless so be sure to take advantage of this luxurious beach so close to home!  You can get there by either US-19 or the Sun Coast Parkway.
