SpringHillNow.com rates BeckyJacks Food Shack a 5 out of 5 for overall experience.
- Cuisine and Suggestions: BeckyJacks features pub food, burgers, seafood, craft beer, and more. This makes a great place to stop for grub on your way to or from the beach or just an awesome lunch spot in general.
- Expect to spend: Not much at all! The prices are reasonable, the portions are large, and the food is delicious. Food for two is likely to be around $25 or less.
- Peaks: Can I just say “Yummy! Yummy! Yummy!”? If that is not reason enough to stop in, the server was super friendly and I love the atmosphere.
- Pits: No fountain sodas…considering I drink coke like it’s going out of style I am not a happy camper when I have to pay per soda. However, I will note here that they are very fair with the way they handle this lack of free-flowing soda as your second soda is only fifty cents.
Food lovers often (and very enthusiastically) share the names of great places to eat with one another and I had heard the name BeckyJacks in more than a few of those conversations. I must say that as we parked the car and began to walk up to the little trailer on Cortez Boulevard I hesitated and nearly changed my mind wondering if those people I had heard rave reviews from were possibly all delusional…Boy am I glad I opted to give it a try anyways because this place is AWESOME!
It was the middle of the day in the middle of the week and the place was packed to the gills. The wide range of patron appearances, from sandy bathing suits to professional attire, only added to the laid-back, “all are welcome” vibe that is as much a part of the appeal as the food itself. Decorated with dollar bills, license plates, yard sale treasures, and even a lava lamp, BeckyJacks is one of a kind for Hernando County. The fact that you are in a trailer along with the little bar and open kitchen overlooking the 10 or so tables make you feel like you are having lunch at a friend’s, which I’m sure is part of the reason they have a large group of loyal and regular customers.
We were quickly greeted and seated. Our server was exceptional, especially considering how busy the place was. We started with some crab cakes which were among the best I’ve ever had because they were simply just tons and tons of crab! Thinking there was no way those “Crabbiest Patties” could be topped we opted for the fried fish tacos and the MOS burger (a 1/2 pound burger topped with grilled mushrooms, onions, and swiss cheese for just $7.00 with fries). The three tacos were more than we could eat and is a MUST TRY if you like that sort of meal. With a crunchy outside that was light and delicious, they certainly lived up to every good thing I’d ever heard about them. The burger was again among the best I’ve ever eaten! Flavorful, juicy, and grilled to perfection. We were stuffed and couldn’t even attempt dessert. I also want to add that I was struck by how CLEAN this place was! I think it’s important to note this because while cleanliness might not be something that one typically notices about a restaurant (unless it’s filthy) it’s rare that you are acutely aware of how clean it is. My parting thoughts: if you haven’t been to BeckyJacks you’ve been missing out on one of Hernando County’s gems! Get your butt over there and tell them you heard how fabulous they were on SpringHillNow.com!
P.S. If you are a beer connoisseur then this is the place for you! BeckyJacks features season and craft beers in addition to their great food.
